Microsoft Office packed a big thing in a little package today with their version update to their mobile iOS applications. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint all have been updated to version 1.22, enabling the ability export documents to the Open Document format.

  • Word files will be exported as OpenDocument Text (.odt).
  • Spreadsheet files will be exported as OpenDocument Spreadsheet (.ods).
  • Presentation files will be exported as OpenDocument Presentations (.odp).

The OpenDocument format is widely accepted across other applications and software, making this quite an important update for iOS users. Note that Excel also adds in the automatic conversion of drawings into shapes.
