Staff Writer

Office 2019 Servers are now available for commercial customers of Exchange Server 2019, Skype for Business Server 2019, SharePoint 2019 and Project Server 2019.

Previously, the suite of Office 2019 Servers had been available in preview for certain customers. During Microsoft’s, IT Pro focused conference Ignite, in September, the company reviewed and released a set of updates to Office 2019 client apps as well as talking about the public release of Office 2019 servers.

If you use Exchange Server, Skype for Business Server, SharePoint Server, and Project Server the new Microsoft Servers should be a welcomed upgrade to make sure you have the best features and security enhancements when adapting to the cloud.

Exchange Server 2019

“Exchange Server 2019 includes scale and performance enhancements, new and improved search by Bing, new options to restrict forwarding meeting requests, and increased control over “out of office” settings.”

Exchange Server 2019 requires Windows Server 2019 as well and unfortunately, all media related to Windows Server 2019 has been pulled due to some quality issue that Microsoft is currently working through. There is no timetable as to when a fix or rerelease of the server will be available.

Skype for Business Server 2019

“Skype for Business Server 2019 provides on-premises and hybrid customers with additional security, quality, and performance features to improve the hybrid scenario.  New features include Cloud Voicemail, Cloud Call Data Connector, Streamlined Migration to Teams, and support for TLS 1.2.”

There is also added support for Windows Server 2019, if and when that’s rereleased, that includes Cloud Auto Attendant and Meetings First. Details for both can be found here.

SharePoint Server 2019

“SharePoint Server 2019 brings the ease of use of SharePoint Online to on-premises customers. For end users, the new release delivers modern libraries, lists, and communication sites.”

For IT Professionals you will see improved performance and scale with simple management and SharePoint Developers get the latest improvements and have the best of both worlds with on-premise and cloud technologies.

Project Server 2019

Project Server 2019 offers project management and portfolio options with collaboration features coupled with SharePoint Server 2019, enhancements to performance and scalability, API’s and improved reporting are available in this version.
