Nvidia has rolled out an updated GeForce graphics driver for those on the new Windows 8.1 Preview or Windows 8. These drivers are in Beta stage and is a “recommended” driver update for those on the new Windows 8.1 Preview.

“This driver enables GeForce to SHIELD streaming and is also a recommended driver update for the Windows 8.1 Preview. GeForce R326 drivers also provide performance increases for a variety of different games,” Nvidia stated in an official blog post. These Beta drivers offer a performance boost by up to 19% for GeForce 400/500/600/700 series GPUs in several PC games, compared to the previous driver release.

An example of performance improvement in games was also given, with up to 15% performance increase in Dirt Showdown and 6% increase in Tomb Raider, when running a GeForce GTX 770 graphics card. We also expect some performance improvements on Windows 8.1, but Nvidia has not disclosed exactly what is new or changed.

There is also support for the upcoming Nvidia SHIELD mobile gaming device. With this Beta driver release, Nvidia has also released GeForce Experience 1.6, which adds beta support for game streaming from GeForce PCs to Nvidia SHIELD, fixes an issue where “Driver is up to date” message is shown incorrectly, uninstall now removes all related components, and other minor bug fixes.

Hit the download links below (32bit and 64bit links are provided). Let us know in the comments below if you notice anything new or if you see a performance increase on Windows 8.1.
