Microsoft has launched the Nokia XL smartphone in India today. The largest screen variant in the Nokia X lineup is now available in the country for Rs. 11,489 (which is roughly 194 USD).
Announced in February at the Mobile World Congress, Nokia XL is a part of the Nokia X family. The three devices – Nokia X, X+, and XL run a customized version of Android. Instead of using Google Mobile Services, the one that you normally would in any android-powered device, the X family makes use of Nokia/Microsoft services.
Earlier this month, Microsoft held an event in India to showcase this device to the press. Nokia XL has the richest hardware specifications in the X family. The phone sports a 5-inch screen of a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. Powered by a 1GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, the dual-SIM capable phone comes with 768MB of RAM. It has a 5MP auto-focus camera with LED flash on the back and a 2MP camera upfront.
As for connectivity, you get support for WiFi and 3G. Nokia is gifting everyone a 4GB microSD card with the phone.
The phone however, is in a weird spot. On one hand it is trying to compete with the likes of the successful Moto G, Moto E, and other Android phones, while on the other it is competing with its own cousins, the Windows Phone devices. And with the kind of specifications it has, along with the price point, it might not fare well against other Lumia phones.
Microsoft recently launched the Lumia 630 in the country at a very competitive price of Rs 10,500 and Rs 11,500 for the dual-SIM version.
