Nokia showcased the Beamer application back at Nokia World in Abu Dhabi, but it was exclusively available for Lumia handsets running the latest Lumia Black update, which was only available on Lumia 1520 at that time. Recently, Nokia announced that Lumia Black update is rolling out to all Lumia handsets, starting with the Nokia Lumia 1020 and Lumia 925, followed by other devices in the coming weeks. But, Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 in several other countries are receiving the Lumia Black update, according to Nokia’s support page.
For those of you who don’t know what Nokia Beamer does, it lets you seamlessly share you device’s screen on any display which is connected to the internet via a QR code or a link that’s sent to the recipient through an SMS or email. “Show your phone’s screen live on any display that’s connected to the Internet. Share photos with friends and family on the TV in your living room, or invite colleagues from all over the world to view a presentation on whatever device they have. Nokia Beamer – your screen on their display,” the app description reads.
Until now, the application only worked with Nokia Lumia 1520, 1320 (in places where it’s available) and a few Lumia 1020, but going forward, it will work on those in possession of a Lumia 820 and 920 provided they are updated to Lumia Black. Unfortunately, it works with devices that ship with 1GB of RAM or more, so this should come as a disappointment for other users who invested in the budget-friendly Lumia line up — except the recently launched Lumia 525 which comes with 1GB of RAM.
If you’re a proud owner of the Nokia Lumia 820 or 920 and received the Black update, head over to the Windows Phone Store to snag the application.
