Nokia announces the super cheap Asha 230 and Nokia 220 feature phones

Nokia may be grabbing more headlines with the Nokia X, Nokia X+ and Nokia XL, but there is more news coming from the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Not content with releasing Android-powered handsets, Nokia is also creating waves with two new super cheap handsets — the Asha 230 and the Nokia 220.

Filling the gap in the market between smartphones and “dumb” phones, these are “feature phones” and are aimed at emerging markets. The Asha 230 features a 2.8 inch screen and the quad-band handset is set to cost just €45 (around $59). A microSD slot add support for up to 32GB of storage.

This is a handset that will go down well with travelers. There is a dual SIM model available that means the phone can be used on two contracts at the same time.

If this phone seems cheap, wait until you hear about the Nokia 220 — which will be available for an incredible €29 ($39). The handset has a 2.4 inch screen and boasts a battery life of over 50 hours.

The Asha 230 is available right now, while the Nokia 220 hits stores “pretty much immediately.”.
