Nintendo is reportedly working on a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for its upcoming Switch 2 console, and the latest leaks suggest the company is also preparing a themed limited edition console to go with it, which adds more weight to the idea that Nintendo wants to position this release as a major event for fans of the franchise.
According to well-known leaker Nate the Hate, the remake project is currently in development, and his claims line up with earlier comments from another insider, which gives this rumor more credibility as multiple sources now point in the same direction.
In a separate update, Shpeshal_Nick, who had already mentioned the remake in late 2024, said the project carries a “pretty big budget,” which indicates Nintendo is treating this as more than a simple remaster and is likely investing heavily to modernize one of its most iconic titles.
Limited Edition Switch 2 Also in the Works
Shpeshal_Nick also added that Nintendo is preparing a Zelda-themed limited edition Switch 2 console, although he is not sure if the remake will come bundled with the device, which leaves some uncertainty around how Nintendo plans to package the release.
This move would not be new for Nintendo, as the company has released themed consoles alongside major Zelda launches in the past, including a Switch Lite edition for Echoes of Wisdom in 2024 and a Switch OLED tied to Tears of the Kingdom.
A full remake of Ocarina of Time would mark one of Nintendo’s biggest nostalgia-driven releases in years, and pairing it with new hardware could help drive early adoption of the Switch 2 while giving long-time fans a strong reason to upgrade.
