Next Generation Xbox won’t launch in 2012, 2014 is more realistic?

Next Generation Xbox rumours have been circling the internet quite a bit recently, with sourcing claiming that the next generation console is set to be released in 2012, instead Microsoft may be planning to release an updated Xbox 360 with Windows 8 support.

Michael Pachter, Wedbush Securities analyst spoke to IndustryGamers in an upcoming Pachters Podium column. Pachter told IndustryGamers that launching a new Xbox console by the end of 2012 wouldn’t make much sense. Instead, he raised the possibility of a new Xbox 360 console, which is capable of running Windows 8.

Pachter said “Those rumors are silly. Microsoft is still selling a ton of Xbox 360s, and they won’t replace the existing one until sales begin to slow. I think the rumors are based upon leaks about modifying the current Xbox 360 to allow it to operate Windows 8.”

He continued “I fully expect a new model of Xbox 360 by holiday 2012, but don’t think we see a new console altogether from Microsoft until 2014.”

As with anything questionable, take this with a grain of salt. There is no solid information supporting a new Xbox 360 by the end of 2012, nor a new Xbox console altogether.
