New Proton Experimental update fixes Starfield photo mode bug, adds 10 new games

A new update for Proton Experimental (Valve’s solution to run Windows games on Linux) is now available. Proton 8.0-3 adds numerous fixes to various games, including one that addresses an issue with Starfield’s photo mode that prevented photos from saving.

Other games getting improvements on Steam Deck and Linux Desktop include Crysis 2 Remastered and Crysis 3, as well as Hogwarts Legacy. Additionally, ten more games are now compatible through Proton with this update.

These changes are specific to the Proton Experimental build. Users can change their Proton version through the following steps.

For Steam Deck:
1. Select a game in your Library and click on the cog icon on the right.
2. Go to Properties and then Compatibility.
3. Enable the tickbox and select “Proton Experimental” from the dropdown menu.

For Linux desktop:
1. Right-click on a game and go to Properties.
2. Navigate to Compatibility.
3. Enable the tickbox and select “Proton Experimental” from the dropdown menu.
