More affordable, 00-$300 Windows Phone devices to launch this year, says Nick Parker

Software and hardware giant, Microsoft, could launch several more affordable Windows Phone devices by the end of this year. The company is looking to bring several sub-$100-$300 devices. Speaking at the Computex trade show in Taipei, Microsoft’s Nick Parker, Corporate Vice President, OEM Division, hinted at more devices and said they could be launched by the end of the year.

Nick said the company currently has devices in the “fours, fives and sixes,” referring to prices between $400 and sub $600 and the new phones will be priced at “ones, twos and threes.” And no, the phones won’t be tied to any carrier, hence these aren’t subsidized prices, Nick confirmed.

While Parker didn’t reveal the manufacturers, he could be hinting towards the new OEMs. Microsoft already has several phones in the sub-$200 price range. Over the last few months, the company has tied with several new OEM partners. Furthermore, it has reduced the licensing fees of Windows Phone OS, and even made it free for several Indian OEMs, including Karbonn Mobiles, Micromax and Xolo, all of which are expected to release their Windows Phone devices soon.
