Midsummer Midas and surfboards come to Fortnite as the UFO unlocks for players – onmsft.com

The popular Fortnite video game’s latest event, Cosmic Summer, has begun and with it comes a bunch of new in-game content for players to unlock, play, and buy.

The event revolves around a massive beach party celebrating the arrival of the aliens that appeared earlier this month with the Chapter 2 Season 7 update and, as a result, features a combination of both summer and space content.

The most notable addition is the unlocking of the massive UFO mothership that’s now hovering over the Fortnite Battle Royale island. Players can now teleport up to the mothership via one of the new Abductors (the ring-shaped UFOs) that have recently appeared. These new ships seemingly activate at random and zap all nearby players up to the mothership via a green light. Once on board, players participate in a timed mini-game to collect orbs and unlock more powerful weapons.

The other big addition with this latest update is the return of Midas. This character debuted in Fortnite back in Chapter 2 Season 2 and quickly became one of the most popular characters in the game’s lore. Midas proved so popular with players that an alternate form of the golden crime lord was brought back for the 2020 Halloween event and now he’s back, seemingly for real, with a new summer look (see top image.)

In addition to Midas, a number of other past skins are also getting new summer variants and will appear in the in-game store throughout the Cosmic Summer event which is set to run until July 5th. Several are also available in a special bundle.

Here’s the official trailer for the event showcasing all of the new content.

Fortnite continues to be one of the most-played video games on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Windows, and all of its other supported platforms.
