Microsoft’s Next Lock Screen update improves battery life on Android

Laurent Giret

Next Lock Screen, an Android app from Microsoft Garage is an interesting option for users looking to replace their default Android lock screen with a more customizable option. Indeed, the app lets you personalize your lock screen with select productivity features including quick access to apps, contacts, notifications and more.

The app has been recently updated to version 3.11.2 which brings no new features but battery life improvements, especially if you use it to check the local weather with automatic updates. Now, the app will use Wi-Fi instead of GPS to locate you, which will hopefully help to reduce battery usage. Here is the full changelog:

  • Improve smart lock battery life. Next now uses Wi-Fi instead of GPS to get location to save battery usage.
  • Crash fixes.

If you didn’t try it yet, Next Lock Screen supports the English, Spanish, Portuguese, and Chinese languages and you can get it from the download link below.
