Microsoft’s new Edge web browser has been confirmed for a future launch on Linux

During an Ignite 2019 session called “State of the browser: Microsoft Edge,” Microsoft officially confirmed that their new Microsoft Edge web browser, an essential redesign of their current Edge browser, will be coming to the Linux operating system sometime in the future.

The reference to Linux was mentioned at the end of a list of supported platforms (cheers WL for the eagle eyes) on a slide titled “The new Microsoft Edge is fully cross-platform.” No release date, let alone a window, is mentioned for the Linux version of Microsoft Edge with the words “available in the future” being the only concrete info provided.

The new version of the Microsoft Edge web browser is already in testing with Insiders on Windows 10 and macOS and is expected to officially launch in public on January 15th next year. Mobile versions of the Edge browser are also available on iOS and Android devices.
