Microsoft’s official Mixer apps have updated on both iOS and Android devices with the addition of a new leaderboard feature and some UI restructuring.
The leaderboards are a completely new feature for Microsoft’s video game streaming service and are available to view for each channel. Each board ranks the channel’s visitors by how many sparks or embers they give to the streamer with the biggest donor ranking at the top.
As far as the UI changes are concerned, the ability to fill a chat comment with empty space has been removed which should stop trolls from making a channel’s chat unusable.
The MixPlay button has been moved to a submenu which makes a lot of sense given that the feature, as much as Microsoft likes to promote it, isn’t really used all that much by streamers or viewers. MixPlay is the Mixer feature that lets viewers control a video game playing played by the streamer they’re watching.
Here’s the full release notes:
Leaderboards are here!
Bring out your competitive side! See who contributed most sparks or embers weekly, monthly, and all time on your favourite channels.
Removed unnecessary whitespace on chat
Moved the MixPlay button
In an effort to simplify the channel page with the new additions, MixPlay button has been moved under the More […] button top left of video where available.
Mixer has been getting a lot of press recently. Earlier this week, it was announced that the streaming service had been growing around 12% month-over-month during the past two years and that it would soon be rolling out monetization features to all users regardless of channel popularity.
It isn’t all good news, though. The Mixer Create app will be shut down next month.
