Microsoft unveils new Xbox app for Windows 10 devices, includes social, Game DVR features, cross-device gaming

Microsoft has unveiled a new app for Windows 10 which brings together the social experience between Xbox One and Windows 10. The new app allows you to see what your friends on Xbox are doing, message them and watching their clips.

The social functions within the app are very similar to that which are available on the Xbox One today. Not only that, but the Xbox app also includes the Game DVR feature, which allows you to record gameplay of any PC game and put it on the Xbox LIVE social feed.

This means you can capture your favorite game moments on PC, and much like Xbox One, can record the last previous 30 seconds too.

Furthermore, it appears Microsoft is enabling cross-device gaming, which means games written for both Xbox One and PC will be able to play together. This is big news. You can also play any Xbox One game from anywhere — you can stream Xbox One games to any Windows 10 PC or tablet!

You can watch Phil Spencer, Microsoft’s Xbox boss, talk about Windows 10 and Xbox during the January 21st event in the video embedded below.
