As you may know, Microsoft is expected to officially unveil Project Scorpio, its new 4K-enabled gaming console during its E3 press briefing this Sunday, June 11. If many gamers are already familiar with the Scorpio name, the company previously said that this was just a codename for the much-anticipated new hardware. Moreover, it seems that Microsoft doesn’t have any trademarks filed for the “Scorpio” name as of today.

Even if Microsoft doesn’t stick with Scorpio for the branding of its new console, the company has recently filed a new trademark for a gaming-related logo at the European Union Intellectual Property Office. The S-shaped logo was discovered on NeoGAF (via Reddit) and the application is still under examination.

With no more information available about this new logo on the EUIPO’s website, it’s not clear if this related to Project Scorpio, or another gaming-related product that has yet to be announced. The “Nice Classification” for the trademark application does provide some clues, however:

9: Computer game software for use with personal computers and video game consoles.

28: Video game consoles for use with an external display screen or monitor; video game interactive remote control units.

We’ll likely get more details about it later this week, let us know your thoughts about this mysterious logo in the comments below!
