Microsoft announced that it has plans underway to stop selling both Windows 10 Home and Pro licenses, including license keys at the end of this month, on January 31. As you might already be aware, Microsoft will officially cut support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. Therefore, this could be Microsoft’s way of preparing toward cutting support for the OS entirely.
The company halting sales doesn’t mean that it will stop supporting Windows 10, in fact, it will continue to push security updates to the OS till it reaches its end of support date. That said, customers can make their purchases till January 31, after that, it will be impossible though it isn’t yet clear if this also applies to retailers and OEMs.
A Microsoft spokesman told The Verge that, “Customers have until January 31, 2023, to purchase Windows 10 Home and Windows 10 Pro from this site,” and goes on to indicate that users should consider upgrading to Windows 11.
Microsoft first launched Windows 10 back in 2015, the company promises to continue providing security updates for the OS till 2025. In other related news, Microsoft announced that it was going to cut support for ESUs for Windows 7 on January 10 and further urged users to upgrade their devices and OS.
