Microsoft thinks tablets will outsell desktop PCs by 2013

According to Microsoft, tablet sales will outsell desktop sales by next year. On top of that, Microsoft has no plans to abandon its desktop/laptop user base and believes touch will become the dominant interface over the next few years.

“Next year, tablets will outsell desktop PCs. Touch is coming to PCs and that’s going to change the way UIs are designed very dramatically, just like the mouse did,” Microsoft’s vice president for Windows Web Services, Antoine Leblond stated. As for those who think Metro is only for tablets, Microsoft believes it will work equally as well on both dekstops and tablets. Microsoft recently announced the Windows 8 powered Surface tablet, which the company built itself.
