Microsoft Teams search function is about to get some major updates this month. The company on September 16 will be rolling out two new features to public preview users that should help to improve the search experience in Teams.

First of all, Microsoft Teams has added a new Top Hits section at the top of the search autosuggest results that aims to enhance discovery and reduce the time required to perform a successful search. This feature is essentially an expansion of the existing search experience in Teams, and it makes finding people, files, and messages faster and more intuitive than ever before.

Hit Highlighting is the other new feature coming to the search functionality in Microsoft Teams this month. Thanks to this feature, the app will provide users “more relevant results and fuzzy matching capabilities” when searching for the channel and group chat suggestions in Teams. “Hit Highlighting in suggestions will make it easier for a user to understand why a particular result is included in the suggestions, and allow them to find what they are looking for, faster,” the Microsoft Teams public preview team explained.

Keep in mind that these search improvements are only rolling out to all users running the public preview version of Teams, and they are not generally available for everyone. If you’re interested, you can try out these features by clicking the three dots icon on the left side of the profile menu and selecting About > Public preview > Switch to Public preview.
