Back in May, Microsoft unveiled a free Reading Progress feature for Teams for Education to help students improve their reading skills. The company today announced that this feature has now started rolling out to all education customers, and it should be generally available on all platforms in a couple of weeks.

“Educators upload a single reading fluency passage or differentiate for their class’ many levels. Students read their passages out loud, creating a recording teachers can access and review at their convenience,” explained Mike Tholfsen, Product Manager on the Microsoft EDU team. “By empowering students to complete their reading fluency assignments regularly and independently, Reading Progress keeps the focus on practice and growth, not performing under pressure.”

Microsoft also announced today that it has added some new features to the Reading Progress tool based on user feedback. The list includes a new PDF upload option and an assignment creation layout. The Reading Progress app has introduced the ability to preview and edit the uploaded passages before assigning them to the students.

In addition to this, the tool now supports more than 100 languages, and the auto-detect language support is available in 37 languages. You can check out the full list on this page. The company plans to collaborate with ReadWorks in order to add curated reading assignments to Teams.

That is not all though, as Microsoft is also working to bring some more enhancements to the tool, such as reading passage support for files and channels in Teams as well as OneNote pages.
