In March, Microsoft Teams launched a new live transcription with speaker attribution feature for scheduled meetings. The AI-powered live transcription support is currently available for select enterprise subscribers, but this capability will expand to more customers later this month.

The live transcription with speaker attribution feature identifies each speaker and delivers real-time transcriptions of the conversation during a Teams meeting. As of now, Live transcription in Microsoft Teams is only available for enterprise customers with licenses for Microsoft 365 E3/E5, Business Standard, and Business Premium SKUs.

The company has recently added a new update to its Microsoft 365 roadmap to indicate that it’s making the transcription service available to additional SKUs to make meeting content more accessible to people challenged by hearing issues. The feature is currently being developed and will be rolled out on the Teams desktop clients globally later this month.

With this update, Live transcription with speaker attribution will be supported on the app in English (US) for scheduled Microsoft Teams meetings under the following licenses:

  • Office 365 E1
  • Office 365 A1
  • Office 365/Microsoft 365 A3
  • Office 365/Microsoft 365 A5
  • Microsoft 365 F1
  • Office 365/Microsoft 365 F3
  • Microsoft 365 Business Basic SKUs

The live transcription experience in Teams should help to improve the accessibility of the app and the productivity of meeting participants. It also enables people to join a meeting in noisy environments. In case you missed it, Microsoft is also planning to expand live transcription support to unscheduled and channel meetings in Teams in July.
