Microsoft Shows Off Cortana, WiFi Sense, And Other New Features In Windows Phone 8.1 (video) – onmsft.com

Microsoft shows off Cortana, WiFi Sense, and other new features in Windows Phone 8.1 (video)

Windows Phone 8.1 may not be available to the general public just yet, but Microsoft has made available a Developer Preview of the operating system update. In fact, this Developer Preview has been available since April 14th. Even if you are not a developer and would like to get your hands on the new update, Microsoft has given you the opportunity to run this preview build on your Windows Phone 8 handset.

In a new video published to Microsoft’s YouTube account, the Redmond giant is showcasing “what’s new” in Windows Phone 8.1, including a quick highlight on Cortana, WiFi Sense, and other new features. If you are waiting for the official release of Windows Phone 8.1 and/or have yet to give the Developer Preview a spin, check out the video embedded below for your viewing pleasure.

If you have yet to snag the Developer Preview, follow the steps below:

  • Step 1 – You must register yourself as an app developer. Simply head over to the Windows Phone App Studio website, and sign-in with your Microsoft Account credentials. 
  • Step 2 – Head over to the Windows Phone Store and download the “Preview for Developers” app. Install and open the app, and log in using your Microsoft Account credentials. Once you are logged in, simply “Enable Preview for Developers.”
  • Step 3. – Go to Settings > Phone updates, and click on “Check for updates.” You will be prompted to download the update, once it is available in your region.
