Microsoft rolls out a plethora of built-in Windows 8.1 app updates

It looks like Microsoft is rolling out an early Christmas present to everyone on Windows 8.1. A check of the Windows Store shows that there are a plethora of apps that are pending an update – for those of you who do not have automatic updated turned on.

A check of the Windows Store this morning resulted in around eighteen Microsoft app updates awaiting installation. These apps include the Bing suite of apps – News, Sports, Weather, Finance, Health & Fitness, Food & Drink, and Travel. Other app updates include Skype, Mail, Calendar, People, Reader, Windows Help + Tips, and more.

We’ve confirmed with several people that these updates are indeed rolling out right now. If you have yet to receive these updates, check again in a little while. We are hoping these updates are not some sort of “glitch” on Microsoft’s part and actually an early Christmas present from the company.

No change logs are available for the updates – thanks Microsoft! – so we will just have to install these app updates and find out what’s new on our own. Let us know in the comments below if you received these updates and if you noticed any new improvements.

Update (12/23/2013): After we installed all these updates, we are seeing them appear again in the Windows Store a few days later. We’ve reached out to Microsoft for a statement as it is likely some sort of glitch.
