Microsoft Research has started their annual Faculty Summit for a series of talks on how technological innovation can benefit both business and society. The 17th meeting of the summit started with a fireside chat and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who spoke about the key role Microsoft Research has in continuing to deliver breakthroughs capable of making big impacts across multiple industries.

Over 600 leading academics and researchers are in attendance at the summit and they will be discussing ways to collaborate on the most pressing and important research questions in computer science and beyond. As noted by Microsoft in this official blog post, Daron Green, the managing director for Microsoft Research’s Outreach program, also opened the summit with a call for researchers to utilize the newest machine learning and artificial intelligence tools, all publicly and freely available to academia.
