Today at Ignite in his keynote address, Satya Nadella reconfirmed Microsoft’s commitment to Enterprise and IT professionals with announcements about how new Windows Server and Windows 10 features will help them compete and manage their resources in the mobile first, cloud first world.
Just as last week when Microsoft confirmed their commitment to software developers with new tools and services at the their Build Conference, today’s conference kicked off with a message to IT pros promising Microsoft will deliver a modern enterprise architecture with the Windows Server and System Center. In a statement delivered on The Official Microsoft blog concurrent to the Ignite keynote address, Brad Anderson, Corporate Vice President of Windows Server and System Center, says:
“A key element of our commitment is providing choice – choice of the right cloud model; choice of platforms through interoperability, openness and cross-platform support; and choice of how and when to adopt new technology.”
Anderson’s first example of this was today’s announcement of Windows Update for Business. On Terry Myerson’s Windows blog, he details how Windows Update for Business will enabled improved security through hardware based device protection; identity protection through Microsoft Passport and Windows Hello; application protection with the new Windows Store for Business; and information protection with Windows 10’s Enterprise Data Protection.
While all of the features sound great for ensuring more peace of mind for IT pros and CIOs at businesses of all sizes, the last feature of Enterprise Data Protection looks to give Microsoft’s Enterprise products an advantage over competitors in the marketplace. Myerson goes on to say that Enterprise Data Protection can “automatically encrypt corporate apps, data, email, website content and other sensitive information, as it arrives on the device from corporate network locations.”
The combination of Windows Server 2016 and Windows 10 is looking to give IT pros and CIOs a new confidence in their networks as more and more businesses rely on cloud services and mobile devices in addition to their on-location servers. Nadella also stated in his keynote that there will be a new Operations Management Suite that is one consistent IT control plane where IT pro’s can orchestrate all of their clouds using a single control plane.
