Microsoft has released an out-of-band update today to fix PDF issues on Windows 10 versions 2004, 20H2, and 21H1. The same KB5004760 patch is now available for all three versions of the OS, and you may want to install it asap if you’ve been encountering issues when trying to open PDF files on your PC.
According to the release notes, this KB5004760 patch addresses “an issue that might prevent you from opening PDFs using Internet Explorer 11 or apps that use the 64-bit version of the WebBrowser control. Additionally, a PDF might render as just a gray background when using the Adobe Acrobat plug-in.”
There are no other fixes in this out-of-band update, which follows the release of a previous optional KB5003690 patch for Windows 10 versions 2004, 20H2, and 21H1. This previous update released on June 21 addressed some performance issues that some gamers have encountered after installing a previous update, and it also included some fixes for Windows Mixed Reality, the news and interests taskbar widget, and more.
