While Microsoft may not particularly like you using mobile platforms that are not named Windows, the company does do an admirable job of supporting you, should you choose to follow that route. In the past, the software giant has made available SkyDrive, OneNote, Skype and more to those entrenched in the Apple and Google ecosystems. Now it wishes to throw a bone to IT with a new Admin App for Office 365.
This is actually a speedy roll-out for the rivals, as the app only just launched for Windows Phone 8 on November 21st. The app allows the administrator to monitor the health of the system while on the go. IT will be able to view screens that, hopefully, are filled with checkmarks, meaning everything is fine. Statuses listed include Lync, Exchange, SharePoint, Email and Calendar access, Voice Mail, and more.
Microsoft points out that you must have “access service health data with the Office 365 Admin app, you must have an active Office 365 subscription with administrator user rights. Also, this app does not currently support Windows Azure Active Directory Multi-Factor Authentication”. The app is free on both platforms, though Office 365 is not. Android customers must be running version 4.2.1 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or newer, while iOS folks are required to be running version 7.
