Office 2010

Back in January, we learned about Office 2010 Service Pack 2 entering private beta testing. Microsoft sent out invites to select testers to get their hands on the new Office 2010 SP2, which is the sequel to SP1, released nearly a year and a half ago.

Today, Microsoft has rolled out the update for those on Office 2010, including a 32bit flavor and 64bit flavor. “Service Pack 2 (SP2) for Microsoft Office 2010 contains new updates which improve security, performance, and stability. Additionally, the SP is a roll-up of all previously released updates,” the download states.

During the Beta phase, Microsoft revealed that this service pack would simply contain previously unreleased fixes that were made specifically for this service pack. On top of that, this service pack would include improvements in stability, performance, and security as well as compatibility with Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, and Internet Explorer 10. SP2 also includes all the public updates and cumulative updates (hotfixes) that have been released since Service Pack 1.

Microsoft has also rolled out Service Pack 2 for Office Web Apps. The service pack for Office Web Apps features the same fixes and updates indicated above for Office 2010. In other words, all the recent updates were rolled into one package, new updates were added, and compatibility issues were addressed in SP2 for Office Web Apps.
