Microsoft releases new driver updates for Surface Pro 4, Book and Studio

Microsoft released firmware updates for some of the most recent Surface devices yesterday, including the Surface Book, Surface Pro 4, and the Surface Studio (via Neowin.) The firmware updates are different for each of the products, improving stability, security, performance, and even battery life in some cases. We’ve divided up the updates for you by product below, so be sure to check it out before you go ahead and install.

Surface Pro 4: (Requires 2 restarts to complete the update):

  • Intel Corporation – HIDClass – 1.2.0.99: Improves multi-touch and pen connectivity when the device wakes from sleep.
  • Microsoft driver update for Surface Embedded Controller Firmware: 103.1791.258.0 improves system reliability.
  • Surface driver update for Surface ME: 11.7.4.3330 resolves potential security vulnerability, including bulletin 170012.
  • Microsoft driver update for Surface System Aggregator: 103.1837.257.0 resolves potential security vulnerability, including bulletin 170012.
  • Surface driver update for Surface UEFI: 108.1866.769.0 resolves potential security vulnerability, including bulletin 170012.
  • Surface driver update for Surface dTPM (IFX): 5.62.3126.2 resolves potential security vulnerability, including bulletin 170012.
  • Intel driver update for Intel(R) Management Engine Interface: 11.7.0.1040 required for UEFI update, and improves recovery from Connected Standby.
  • Microsoft driver update for Surface Integration: 1.0.171.1 improves system reliability.

The Surface Pro 4 update improves security, reliability, connectivity, and battery life. There are no changes to performance or compatibility.

Surface Book:

  • Intel Corporation – HIDClass – 1.2.0.99: Improves multi-touch and pen connectivity when the device wakes from sleep.
  • Intel Corporation – System – 9.21.0.2853: Improves video performance in some applications.
  • Intel Corporation – System – 9.21.0.2853: Improves video performance in some applications.
  • NVIDIA – Display – 23.21.13.8808: Improves device graphics performance.
  • Realtek – Media – 6.0.1.8242: Improves Cortana speech recognition.
  • Microsoft – Storage -11.0.0.1: Improves storage performance.
  • Surface – System – 2.27.136.0: Timproves system stability.

Surface Book sees improvided security, reliability, connectivity, and battery life with this update. There are no changes to compatibility or performance.

Surface Studio:

  • Surface – Firmware – 11.7.4.3330: Resolves potential security vulnerability, including bulletin 170012.
  • Surface – Firmware – 118.1895.770.0: Resolves potential security vulnerability, including bulletin 170012.
  • Surface Firmware – 5.62.3126.2: Resolves potential security vulnerability, including bulletin 170012.
  • Intel – System – 11.7.0.1040: 11.7.0.1040 required for UEFI update, and improves recovery from Connected Standby.

Oddly enough, Microsoft has marked that the Surface Studio update improves battery life. It also improves security and reliability, with no changes to connectivity, compatibility, or performance.

Microsoft also issued an update for the Surface Pro LTE Advanced recently, mainly focused on improving GPS connectivity. Anyway, you can download these updates now by checking via Windows Update. If that fails, you can manually update by downloading the packages here for Surface Studio, here for Surface Book, and here for Surface Pro 4.
