Microsoft Presses On With HoloLens 2 by Launching It in Saudi Arabia

Microsoft has made a significant stride in the field of mixed reality with the launch of the HoloLens 2 headset in Saudi Arabia. This development marks a new chapter in the Kingdom’s computing landscape, as Microsoft aims to empower Saudi organizations across various industries and equip them with the necessary tools to gain a competitive edge on the global stage.

HoloLens 2 is an augmented reality (AR) device developed by Microsoft. It promises to deliver the most comfortable, intuitive, and immersive mixed-reality experience by leveraging the power of Microsoft Cloud and AI services. Together with Dynamics 365 mixed reality apps and industry ISV solutions, this technology brings tangible enterprise value to sectors such as manufacturing, automotive, healthcare, defense, and education.

In January, Congress put a pause on purchasing HoloLens headsets for Army due to feedback from field tests where over 80% of soldiers reported experiencing issues while wearing them. Additionally, the hardware team responsible for the HoloLens faced layoffs in February, indicating the project is not delivering the expected results.

However, by launching the AR headset in Saudi Arabia, Microsoft is hoping to revamp its ambitious hardware project and move forward in the field of mixed reality. Recognizing the increasing demand for Microsoft’s trusted cloud services in Saudi Arabia, the company had previously announced its plans to establish a new cloud data center region in the Kingdom. Once operational, this cloud region will provide enterprise-grade cloud services, coupled with robust security and data residency, to organizations in the country, empowering them to embark on successful digital transformation journeys.

The availability of HoloLens 2 in Saudi Arabia, coupled with the forthcoming cloud data center region, demonstrates Microsoft’s commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s technological advancement and fostering innovation across industries. By bringing mixed reality experiences to the forefront, Microsoft is trying to revolutionize how organizations operate, collaborate, and achieve their goals, ultimately driving Saudi Arabia’s position as a global leader in the digital era.
