Microsoft: Over 740 million hours of fun on Xbox One across games, apps, and TV

New data from the NPD Group for the month of January 2014 has been revealed and the Xbox (which includes both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One) saw the most games sold across all console platforms with 2.27 million units sold. On top of that, the Xbox One platform accounted for over 740 million hours of fun across games, apps, and TV since the launch of the console.

“We are incredibly humbled and proud to see Xbox One continue to be the best launch of an Xbox in our history. Comparatively, Xbox One consoles have sold at a rate of 2.29 times faster than Xbox 360 in the U.S. in the same timeframe for the first three months on the market. From our blazing start out of the gate, we have continued to see Xbox One delight fans in 13 markets around the world, with many more markets to come this year,” Microsoft stated in an official blog post.

According to the data, 2.27 million Xbox units were sold in January. On top of that, the Xbox One has sold at a rate of 2.29 times faster than the Xbox 360, at least in the US.

Since the launch of the Xbox One, over 2.6 billion global Gamerscore have been achieved, 165 million global achievements have been unlocked, and 130 million global Game DVR clips have been uploaded. Microsoft also revealed that over 685 million speech commands were used to navigate Xbox One, including 20 million commands of “Xbox, Record That.” Not to be out done, over 1 million people have launched Skype on the Xbox One.

During the month of January, both the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One held five of the top 10 spots on the console game title list in the US, combined. These titles included “Battlefield 4,” “Call of Duty: Ghosts” (Xbox 360 and Xbox One), “Grand Theft Auto V” and “Minecraft.”

“In addition to being the best place to play games, we also had a goal to create an all-in-one entertainment device that brings new and unmatched entertainment capabilities worthy of a next generation console. We’re pleased to see that goal bear out as our global fans use Xbox One in incredible ways at rates we’ve never seen before,” Microsoft added.

While the Sony PS4 may have sold more consoles than the Xbox One (two to one), Microsoft’s console has sold more games. The console war is barely starting, so hang on tight.
