Microsoft’s untethered mixed reality headset, the HoloLens 2 is coming to more environments soon. The company announced that pre-orders for a HoloLens 2 Industrial Edition are now open, with shipments starting in Spring 2021.
According to Microsoft, the pre-orders come “as part of listening, and always learning” from customers. As a result, the Redmond giant now sees the demand for the HoloLens 2 in environments with more rigorous requirements that are regulated by industry certifications. Examples include the semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries, the energy sector.
In these industries and environments, the headset can be used without modifying spaces, protocols, or workflows. Microsoft says that HoloLens 2 can match all these demands. It is clean room compatible and meets the ISO 14644-1 Class 5-8 rating. The headset also is certified for Intrinsic safety, as part of the UL Class I, Division 2.
