Microsoft Launches ‘Building Windows 8’ Blog

With Microsoft’s Build Developer Conference rapidly approaching, Microsoft today launched the official Windows 8 blog to give insight to the Windows dev team. Microsoft also stated that a pre-release version of Windows 8 will arrive in the coming months.

“We’ve been hard at work designing and building Windows 8, and today we want to begin an open dialog with those of you who will be trying out the pre-release version over the coming months. We intend to post regularly throughout the development of Windows 8, and to focus on the engineering of the product. Welcome to “Building Windows 8,” or as we call it, “B8,” Steven Sinofsky stated in the first Building Windows 8 blog post.

Microsoft plans on using this new blog to discuss the Windows 8 product development as it progresses. “Our intent with this pre-release blog is to make sure that we have a reasonable degree of confidence in what we talk about.. this blog is here to provide a two-way dialog about the complexities and tradeoffs of product development,” Sinofsky stated.

As far as why Microsoft has remained tight lipped about Windows 8, Microsoft had this to say: “We’ve heard people express frustration over how little we’ve communicated so far about Windows 8. We’ve certainly learned lessons over the years about the perils of talking about features before we have a solid understanding of our ability to execute.”

Microsoft’s Build developer conference, which was a re-brand of the annual PDC event, has sold out recently, which is not surprising. Microsoft re-branded the conference to match the company’s new focus towards a “new generation of modern hardware and software development.” The Build developer conference, which takes place Tuesday September 13 to 16 in Anaheim, California, is expected to showcase first public build of Windows 8. It is still unknown if the build will be a Beta or a Community Tech Preview (CTP), although we are being told that it will be a Beta.
