Microsoft is reportedly planning special events about Windows, Gaming, and more this year

Microsoft announced last week a special digital event on Thursday, February 4, which will feature Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and CVP of Microsoft 365. The upcoming event will see the execs discuss the future of the employee experience, and introduce “new ways to bring together communications, knowledge, learning, resources, and insights with everyday work.”

According to Tom Warren from The Verge, the company could be planning other digital events focused on Windows, Gaming, and other topics throughout the rest of the year, in addition to the company’s annual conferences like Build or Inspire. The Windows event should focus on Windows 10X and the big design update codenamed “Sun Valley” that is expected to make its debut with the 21H2 update for Windows 10 in the second half of 2021.
In a separate digital event dedicated to gaming, Microsoft could announce an expansion of Xbox Cloud Gaming (Project xCloud), which launched on Android devices back in September. The Cloud gaming service is expected to launch on Windows 10 PCs and iOS devices via the web this year, and Xbox head Phil Spencer previously mentioned his interest to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming Smart TVs, with the possibility of Microsoft releasing its own streaming sticks.
As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to spread across the world, Microsoft quickly announced back in April 2020 that it wouldn’t hold any in-person events through July 2021. In recent months, we’ve seen many other big tech companies including Apple and Google trying to find the right formula for their digital events, and we’re looking forward to seeing if Microsoft will try a new format for its upcoming event on Thursday.
