Microsoft introduces new Surface accessories designed by Marimekko

In addition to a new Aqua colored Type Cover, Arc Mouse, and Surface Pen (on sale on October 17,) Microsoft recently announced the launch of new Skins and Type Covers created by Finnish fashion design company, Marimekko (via Neowin.) The accessories are the perfect way to dress up and customize your Surface and can be purchased right now at local Microsoft retail stores, and at Microsoft.com.

Right now, you can purchase two Marimekko Special Edition Type Covers for the Surface Pro or Surface Pro 4. Priced at $179.99 each, one Type Cover features a “Siirtolapuutarha” pattern and the other features a “Kaivo” pattern.  Each of these patterns is unique and has their own design story. You can learn more about these patterns by checking the graphic below.

Siirtolapuutarha and Kaivo

Also new are four different Marimekko skins for the Surface Pro or Surface Pro 4. Each of the Skins is priced at $39.99 and can help you spice up the standard aluminum look of the Surface Pro device. Available in Siirtolapuutarha, Kaivo, Unikko, or Räsymatto flavors, the skins are removable and interchangeable. You can check out the descriptions below.

  • Unikko (poppy) came to life in 1964 after Armi Ratia, Marimekko’s founder, announced that they would never print a flower pattern. In protest, acclaimed designer Maija Isola created an entire series of exuberant floral prints, including Unikko.
  • Remember the striped rugs made by using odd scraps of fabric common in the mid-20th century? They’re still popular today on the floors of Finnish summer cottages. Maija Louekari’s Räsymatto pattern translates this nostalgic, yet functional rug in a quirky, modern way.

Last up is the Marimekko Sleeve for Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. This sleeve is priced at $74.99 and comes in two flavors: Räsymatto and Unikko. The sleeves allow you to easily slip your Surface Laptop or Surface Pro right into your bag without worrying about scratching the product. Check it out below.
