Microsoft Imagine Cup World Finals underway in Redmond

Microsoft’s Imagine Cup, an annual competition for teams of young technology students, is entering its final week after tens of thousands for teams from around the world have been competing up to this point since last September.

The finals week kicked off yesterday in Redmond as the remaining 33 teams meet for a week final presentations and last minute coaching. The week will culminate this Friday at Noon Pacific time with the three finalists making their last presentations to a panel of all-star judges who will decide the next World Champion of the Imagine Cup.

The panel includes Thomas Middleditch, Star of HBO’s Silicon Valley, Alex Kipman, the inventor of Hololens, and Jens Bergensten, Lead Developer of Minecraft. Once the presentations have been made and the judges have their decisions, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella will be at the event to crown this year’s champion.

The young students who made it this far are in for quite a week as they receiving coaching from judges on their presentations, including Microsoft Distinguished Engineer James Whittaker, and are receiving little sleep as the competition heats up.

Starting this Friday at Noon PST, you can watch the webcast of the final presentations here. Until then you can check out each of the 33 remaining teams and their projects here across the three different categories of Games, Innovation, and World Citizenship.
