As the news around Minecraft’s new mobile augmented reality game simmers, the company quietly released an announcement that the game has sold 176 million copies.

In the face of competition from other highly modern popular games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty and Red Dead Redemption, Minecraft has managed to bump its overall numbers by an additional 20 million in the last seven months. In addition to shelling out 20 million more copies of the games, Minecraft has also managed to entice over 200 million users to try out the China Edition.

Microsoft now has its sights set on expanding the franchise on to the burgeoning augmented reality platform in a similar fashion as the 2016 mobile hit Pokemon Go and the play could help launch Minecraft into a popularity stratosphere that could bring a few million more users into the fold.
