Microsoft has released build 96.0.1043.1 to the Edge Dev channel. There’s not much new this week, but Edge users on Windows 7 are seeing a big improvement this week. Here’s a look at everything you need to know.
With the new features on Edge Dev in Windows 7, Microsoft is adding share support. In addition to this, Microsoft enabled picture-in-picture support on Windows and finished rolling out the ability to search the web for an image in the sidebar from the context menu. There are also some management policies updates centered around the Typosquatting checker, renderer App Container, Application Guard Upload Blocking, and more.
As usual, you can expect some slight improvements, and changed behaviors too. These cover drawing on touch screens crashes with auto-filling payment card info, tabs crashing as soon as they open, shopping websites, and more. Changed behaviors include some of the things below. We highlighted the big ones, but you can see the full changelog online.
- Fixed an issue where certain shopping websites crash or are blank.
- Fixed a crash when closing the last window in a profile.
- Fixed a crash on launch if a Guest window was the last window closed during the previous session.
- Fixed a crash on startup after taking a major update.
- Fixed a crash on launch on mobile.
- Fixed a crash on Android 12.
- Fixed an issue on HoloLens where microphone input doesn’t work.
- Fixed an issue on Mac where shortcuts to PWAs or websites installed as apps are not removed when the PWA or app is uninstalled.
- Fixed an issue where moving tabs to another profile sometimes doesn’t work.
- Fixed an issue when sending a tab to another device where the list of devices to send to sometimes doesn’t list all the available devices properly if multiple channels are installed on a single device.
- Fixed an issue where navigations never finish in Application Guard windows.
- Fixed an issue where Application Guard windows sometimes use the wrong proxy setting.
Known issues in this build are the same as always. These cover wobbling with scrolling, the tabs crashing with STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error, Kaspersky Internet Suite causing issues in tabs, and other issues with ad-blocking extensions.
Outside of today’s Edge Insider news, Microsoft says that they’re nearing the end of version 96, with next week being the last week for it being in the Dev Channel. That should also mean it might become the beta candidate soon, as well. Stay tuned for updates, and happy downloading, Edge insiders!
