In an interview with Geekwire, Bill Gates reflects on his father’s impact on his life as his father celebrates his 90th birthday. The elder Bill Gates has had a great life so far, even without now being known for having one of the co-founders of Microsoft as a son. Microsoft’s Bill Gates reflects on what it has meant for him to have his father in his life and how his father’s presence and guidance made him go on to create Microsoft and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to help people throughout the world.
Bill Gates posted a video on his blog, announcing his father’s birthday and posting a video that the Gates family put together in honor of his father.

“My dad has had an enormous influence on my life. He is the wisest person I know. Like a lot of sons and daughters, I didn’t always recognize my father’s wisdom when I was growing up. But eventually I figured it out and I have turned to him for advice more times than I can count. My dad is also one of the most generous and kind people I know. Our foundation would not be what it is without his guidance and inspiration. Our family had a party for Dad yesterday. We put together a video celebrating him and I thought I would share a part of it here. Thanks, Dad, for all your love. I am lucky and proud to be your son.”

The video is a rare look into Bill Gates’ personal life and how his father shaped his life. With all his father’s wisdom and guidance, I wonder what his father thought of his son dropping out of Harvard to start what would ultimately become Microsoft?
