Microsoft Azure has been available in China in the form of a public preview for a little while now, but today the service has been given a full launch enabling the country to take advantage of the cloud platform.
Government control over the internet in China is something that the world is aware of, and Microsoft is obliged to comply with rules and regulations in the region. For this reason, Micorosoft has joined forced with the country’s “largest carrier-neutral Internet data center services provider”
The launch is announced in a blog post by Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President for Cloud and Enterprise Marketing, Takeshi Numoto who says: “Cloud computing is a big part of the future for China, and we are thrilled to play a role in bringing this future to our customers… This significant milestone makes us the first global company to make onshore public cloud services available to customers in China, through 21Vianet.”
Microsoft has something of a captive market in China, and the spread of Azure follows the recent growth into Japan. The company is “delighted that customers throughout China will be able to experience world-class public cloud services powered by Microsoft Azure.”
