Microsoft adds support for editing SVG images in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on Android

In a new update on Android devices, Microsoft has enabled support for editing SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) images in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. An SVG image is an XML-based vector image format for interactive and animated 2D images.

This is the same feature that we saw released for Android Insiders just two weeks ago. Here’s the changelog for the new Android update for MicrosoftWord, Excel, and PowerPoint:

  • Use SVG images in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint: Insert and edit scalable vector graphic (SVG) images in your presentation to create sharp, well-designed content. No expert software required.

SVG images and how they behave are created in XML text files. Thus, SVG images can be searched, indexed, scripted, and compressed. Since SVG images are XML files, they can be created and edited with any text editor. All major modern web browsers, including Microsoft Edge have some SVG image rendering support.
