Meta will remove Horizon Worlds from Quest VR headsets on June 15, 2026, marking a clear shift away from its original metaverse vision and toward a mobile-first experience. The company has already started separating the platform from Quest and now plans to make smartphones the main way to access Horizon Worlds.
According to Meta’s community forum update, the transition will happen in phases as the company “focuses exclusively on the smartphone version” after seeing “positive momentum” on mobile in 2025.
Meta will begin limiting access soon, and the changes will roll out in two key steps:
- By March 31, Horizon Worlds and Events will no longer appear in the Quest Store
- Users will lose access to popular worlds like “Horizon Central,” “Events Arena,” “Kaiju,” and “Bobber Bay”
- After June 15, the app will be fully removed from Quest headsets
From that point, users will need the Meta Horizon app on iOS or Android to continue using the platform.
Feature Cuts and Strategy Shift
Meta is also removing Hyperscape Capture from Horizon Worlds, which previously let users “capture, share and visit” detailed 3D scans together, and while users can still view captures, “sharing, inviting, and co-experiencing” will stop working.
The move shows where Meta now invests its time and money, with more focus on AI and smart glasses instead of a VR-first metaverse.
