Major technology companies have joined forces to address the growing problem of online scams, and the effort focuses on improving cooperation across platforms so criminals who move between services face stronger detection systems, better verification checks, and faster reporting tools that help protect users from financial fraud and identity deception.
Axios reported that companies including Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn, Meta, Amazon, OpenAI, Adobe, Pinterest, Target, Levi’s Strauss & Co., and Match Group signed the Online Services Accord Against Scams, a voluntary industry agreement designed to create a coordinated response to fraud networks that operate across multiple online services.
Agreement’s aim
The accord sets a framework that pushes companies to share threat intelligence, strengthen fraud detection systems, and introduce additional security features that help identify suspicious activity before scammers reach potential victims.
The companies also plan to require stronger verification for financial transactions that happen on their platforms, which should reduce cases where criminals impersonate trusted contacts, sellers, or recruiters to trick users into sending money.
