Lumia 630: Exploring hardware performance on this budget-friendly Windows Phone 8.1 device

We’ve been field testing our Lumia 630 for quite some time now and Microsoft’s latest budget-friendly device sure does pack a punch. In fact, Microsoft is touting the device as having a balance between price and performance.

But how well does the Lumia 630 stack up against other Lumia smartphones? Let’s take a few moments to go over the hardware specifications of this fantastic Windows Phone 8.1 device.

The Lumia 630 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 Quad-Core 1.2 GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of storage, a 4.5-inch 854×480 display, and a 5MP rear camera. The display features Corning Gorilla Glass 3, multi-touch, and has 16 million colors. The device can record 720p video at 30fps. At the rear of the device, you have a 1830 mAh battery.

The low-end Lumia 530, for example, features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 Quad-Core 1.2GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, a 4-inch 854×480 display, and a 5MP rear camera. The device also has a 1,430 mAh battery.

The higher-end Lumia 930, on the other hand, comes packed with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 Quad-Core 2.2GHz CPU, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a 5-inch 1080p display, and a 20MP camera. There is also a 2420 mAh battery. My partner Mark Wilson is currently field testing a brand new Lumia 930, which you can monitor here.

Clearly, the Lumia 630 features a balance of performance and price. Not quite low-end but not quite high-end. The Lumia 530 and Lumia 630 are somewhat similar in terms of specs, aside from the storage space and screen size.

We’re going to test out the camera in our next installment of our hands-on review of the Lumia 630. Stay tuned for that!
