Windows Phone

According to a new report, LG has no plans to enter the Windows Phone market anytime soon. The news was confirmed by an LG representative to the folks at Pocket-Lint and confirmed during a pre-Mobile World Congress (MWC).

I know many of you may not care much about LG making a Windows Phone handset, but the manufacturer has some decent high-end phones in the Android ecosystem and it’s always good to have some competition — something which currently lacks in the Windows Phone market. The company did launch a Windows Phone handset back in 2010 with its Optimus 7, and since then we haven’t heard much from the company.

Windows Phone market is currently dominated by Nokia with a market share of over 90 percent. Some other OEMs are also expected to jump in the Windows Phone bandwagon this year, including Sony and Samsung. Samsung is rumored to be working on a Windows Phone 8.1 powered handset codenamed Huron, but we shouldn’t expect it to launch at the MWC — it could see the daylight after Microsoft officially unveils the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system.

Microsoft revealed earlier that LG was among a total of nine new OEMs that will jump on board the Windows Phone platform. The nine new Windows Phone partners include: Foxconn, Gionee, JSR, Karbonn, Lava (Xolo), Lenovo, LG, Longcheer and ZTE. Perhaps LG plans on taking its sweet time with a new Windows Phone handset.

Things might change in the future, and the company may launch a Windows Phone handset sooner than later, but for now, don’t expect anything. Do you want to see a Windows Phone handset from LG? Share your thoughts.
