Along with rolling out security updates as part of June’s Patch Tuesday, Microsoft has also rolled out two firmware updates, one for Surface RT and one for Surface Pro. Both updates offer fixes and improvements, and the Surface RT finally gets the promised Function key improvements for the Touch/Type Cover.

The Surface RT firmware update features an improvement to the functionality with the Type and Touch Covers, adding the ability to toggle the function keys, create new shortcuts, and other helpful keyboard navigation improvements. Microsoft recently promised this update would enhance the Function keys, allowing for quick access to common tasks. Microsoft has also updated the Surface Home button driver to address issues of the device not waking up immediately after pressing the Home button.

Microsoft has also rolled out an update for the Surface Pro, providing a LifeCam driver update that enhances clarity for low light operation. Microsoft has also improved the reliability when it comes to switching between the integrated camera and an external camera. Microsoft hasn’t revealed if the firmware update addresses other issues with the device.

If you have a Surface RT or a Surface Pro, head over to Windows Update to snag the firmware updates!
