Microsoft Patch Tuesday

Today is the day Microsoft rolls out security updates as part of the company’s Patch Tuesday. So what does the July 2013 edition of Patch Tuesday have in store for us? Microsoft is rolling out six critical security fixes along with one important fix today for various products including Windows 8.

Of the seven security updates, six of them are critical and one is labeled as important. The majority of the critical security updates deal with remote code execution in Windows ranging from Windows XP all the way up to Windows 8 and Windows RT. Other products affected include Internet Explorer, Microsoft Lync, Office, Visual Studio, .NET Framework, and Silverlight.

Windows 8 will see six critical updates while Windows RT will only have five critical updates. The security update that is labeled as important applies to Windows Defender in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

These security updates roll out today so head over to Windows Update to snag the updates. If you have Automatic Updates enabled, then you have nothing to worry about. None of these updates will be on Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1 RT, at least according to the security bulletins.
