Microsoft has finally released the highly anticipated Halo Spartan Assault game for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. Microsoft is taking advantage of the touch screen phenomenon with its Halo franchise. Those in the United States can only snag the game on Windows Phone 8 if you are a Verizon customer, at least until August 16th.

“Halo: Spartan Assault brings the excitement of Halo combat to touch-based devices for the very first time. Battle your way through 25 action-packed missions against the Covenant as you explore the origin of the Spartan Ops program and Halo 4’s Spartan Commander, Sarah Palmer,” the app description reads. This game basically brings “console quality” entertainment to your mobile device.

Halo Spartan Assault is a game that has you playing as Commander Sarah Palmer or Spartan Davis as they battle a relentless alien foe in all new Halo missions. By playing Halo Spartan Assault on your Windows Phone 8 device or Windows 8 device, you can earn additional experience points that will go towards your Spartan Career, complimenting Halo 4 on the Xbox 360.

The app for Windows Phone 8 and Windows 8 both run for $6.99 and you will be required to purchase each app individually if you want to play the game on either platform.
