Microsoft’s beloved Halo franchise has seen many iterative episodes on the company’s Xbox, Xbox 360, and now Xbox One gaming consoles, as well as Forward Unto Dawn, a live-action miniseries leading up to the launch of Halo 4 in 2012. Now we’ve got another chance to experience the Halo universe with Halo: The Fall of Reach.
Halo: The Fall of Reach is an animated feature from Vancouver, B.C.-based SEQUENCE set before the events of the first game in the franchise, Halo: Combat Evolved. It is adapted from the novel of the same name written by Eric Nylund, and relates the origins of Halo’s famous Master Chief, as well as Cortana’s creator Dr. Catherine Halsey. SEQUENCE is not new to the Halo franchise, having worked with Microsoft to produce special terminal footage for Halo 4 and Halo 2: Anniversary. They’ve also done cinematic work with Microsoft’s Halo universe for the Halo: Spartan Assault game for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. The Fall of Reach is the latest work since after producing the cinematic trailer for Halo: Master Chief Collection.
The feature itself can now be purchased to add to your Halo collection, and is a quick watch at only 65 minutes long. It’s on sale as of today, and can be found on Amazon Video, iTunes, Google Play Movies & TV, Microsoft Movies & TV, and Halo Channel. Physical copies can be purchased on DVD and Blu-Ray discs, for $20.99 and $24.99 respectively, as well as streamed online, for $9.99 on Halo Channel and $14.99 elsewhere online. Microsoft also notes that the Halo Channel version is streaming-only. Halo: The Fall of Reach can also be found in the Digital Deluxe, Limited, and Limited Collector’s Editions of Halo 5: Guardians.
