Halo 5: Guardians is now free to play on Xbox One consoles for gamers with an active Xbox Live Gold membership. The full game can be downloaded and played from the Microsoft Store and all progress and Achievements will save to the cloud and carry over to a purchased version of the game should players choose to buy it at a later date.

This free period for Halo 5: Guardians will remain active until the end of this weekend, on Sunday night. It should be noted that Halo 5: Guardians is also currently free to play for Xbox Game Pass subscribers and that those who use Microsoft’s game subscription service will continue to be able to play it for free after this weekend is finished.

Halo 5: Guardians is the most-recent entry in the main Halo video game series. Its sequel, Halo Infinite is currently in development. Not much is known about Halo Infinite beyond the new visual style glimpsed in its initial teaser video, the fact that it will include microtransactions, and that it will be made with esports in mind. It’s officially been announced to launch on Windows 10 and Xbox One though a release on Microsoft’s next Xbox console could be a possibility depending on how long development takes.
